Maintenance
The pre-autumn HVAC checklist Algarve homes skip
August is still hot. September is when the smart houses service cooling and heating in one visit — before the first Atlantic low.
By late August the outdoor unit has worked harder than any other machine on the plot. Most owners wait until something rattles. The cheaper habit is a pre-autumn visit while the system is still in daily use and the heating season is a few weeks away.
What we do while cooling is still on
A technician can hear a tired fan and see a salted coil now, not in November when the house is shut. We clean, check charge, and look at coastal corrosion after a full summer of Atlantic air.
And we switch the system into heating
Reverse-cycle kit that has not run in heat mode since March deserves a test before a cold snap. Controllers, indoor sensors, and a neglected indoor unit on the north elevation are the usual surprises.
A short list for owners
- Book the visit before the first school-holiday changeover if you let the house
- Clear vegetation around outdoor units
- Note any room that lagged in August — that is a sizing or airflow clue
- Ask for heating mode to be tested, not just assumed
Algarve Seasons runs these combined visits across the region. One appointment, both seasons, no drama in October.
